Sectigo celebrates 500th episode of acclaimed PKI podcast “Root Causes”
SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. — May 30, 2025 — Sectigo, a global leader in digital certificates and automated Certificate Lifecycle Management (CLM), today announced the publication of episode 500 of the acclaimed podcast “Root Causes,” a milestone achievement for the pioneering, independently produced public key infrastructure (PKI) and cybersecurity podcast.
Launched in January 2019, “Root Causes” was created by Sectigo technology experts Tim Callan and Jason Soroko to demystify the complex and rapidly evolving world of PKI, digital identity, cryptography, and digital trust. Since its debut, the podcast has generated over 140 hours of insightful content and has been streamed more than 500,000 times across all major platforms including Apple Podcasts, Spotify, YouTube, SoundCloud, and more than 30 others.
"'Root Causes’ has always been an unfiltered, unsponsored, and entirely self-produced passion project for Jason and me,” said Tim Callan, chief compliance officer at Sectigo and co-host of the podcast. “Reaching 500 episodes is a testament to the importance of digital trust in today’s world and IT professionals’ appetite for information on this topic.”
The podcast has featured some of the most prominent voices in PKI and post-quantum cryptography (PQC), including:
- Dr. Dustin Moody, mathematician at the Computer Security Division, National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), and leads the NIST PQC project
- Dr. Michele Mosca, co-founder of the Institute for Quantum Computing and professor at the University of Waterloo
- Bruno Couillard, founder & CEO at Crypto4A
- Sofia Celi, cryptography & security researcher at Brave, and chair of the IETF Post-Quantum Internet Project (PQUIP)
In 2023, “Root Causes” earned recognition as a Webby Awards honoree in the Technology category, standing shoulder-to-shoulder with commercial and professionally produced industry giants.
In 2024, what began as an audio-only series expanded into video with the launch of a dedicated YouTube channel, further broadening its reach and accessibility.
“We started 'Root Causes’ in 2019 with the singular goal of delivering meaningful, technical content to security professionals without hype or hidden agendas,” said Jason Soroko, senior fellow at Sectigo and co-host of the podcast. “We’re proud of what we’ve accomplished and grateful to all our listeners, who have made Root Causes a trusted voice in PKI and beyond.”
