How do you request a Verified Mark Certificate?
Overview
By the end of this article, a Sectigo customer will have placed a Verified Mark Certificate (VMC) order and submitted the certificate request to Sectigo for validation and issuance. The article covers the purchase and account check-out, the certificate set-up wizard — Certificate Signing Request (CSR), domains, Domain Control Validation (DCV), organization information, contact person, trademark information, and a logo in Scalable Vector Graphics (SVG) format — and the summary review and submission. After submission, the order status dashboard tracks Domain Control Validation, Organization Validation, Logo Validation, and certificate issuance. The VMC enables the organization logo to display in supported email clients through Brand Indicators for Message Identification (BIMI).
What is a Verified Mark Certificate?
A Verified Mark Certificate (VMC) is a digital certificate that authenticates an organization’s registered trademark logo so that supported email clients can display the logo next to authenticated messages — a feature called Brand Indicators for Message Identification (BIMI). To qualify, the organization must own a registered trademark of the logo and host the logo in BIMI-configured Scalable Vector Graphics (SVG) format.
Prerequisites
Gather the following before starting the order:
-
The fully qualified domain name (FQDN) the certificate will cover.
-
A Certificate Signing Request (CSR) with a 2048-bit key size for a one-year certificate, or 3072-bit for a six-year certificate.
-
The chosen Domain Control Validation (DCV) method for each domain: Email, DNS, or HTTP.
-
Legal organization details: registered name (max 64 characters), organization number, email, street address, ZIP, city, state, country, and phone number.
-
Validation contact person: first name, last name, role, email, and phone number.
-
Trademark information: Trademark Identifier / Registration Number, Trademark Office, Trademark Country or Jurisdiction, Dun & Bradstreet (DUNS) Number, and Trademark Owner Name.
-
A logo in BIMI-configured Scalable Vector Graphics (SVG) format: square aspect ratio, no transparency, maximum 24 KB.
