Shorter validity periods for Code Signing certificates

To align with evolving industry requirements, Sectigo will begin enforcing a maximum Code Signing certificate validity of 459 days starting February 23, 2026, ahead of a broader industry effective date of March 1, 2026.

WHAT’S CHANGING (starting February 23, 2026)

Shorter maximum certificate validity

New Code Signing certificates will be issued with a maximum validity of 459 days.

Multi-year Code Signing: delivery method updates

  • 1-year Code Signing certificates will remain available via your current delivery method.
  • Multi-year Code Signing will continue to be available as a multi-year product term, but going forward it will be offered only through remote provisioning (customer-generated keys). This requires a supported token/device/HSM and a key attestation during the order process.
  • Multi-year terms will require certificate re-issuance during the purchased term, because each issued certificate is limited to a maximum of 459 days (i.e., the certificate validity will no longer cover the full product term). The multi-year Sectigo-provisioned (token-based) option will be discontinued.
