How to upload a CSR and complete DCV after Pre‑Validation for OV/EV SSL certificates?
Overview:
This guide provides step-by-step instructions to help customers upload their Certificate Signing Request (CSR) and complete Domain Control Validation (DCV) in the Sectigo portal after Organization Validation (OV)/ Extended Validation (EV) pre‑validation has been completed.
Prerequisites
Before you begin, ensure you have the following:
-
Access to the Sectigo account associated with the SSL order
-
The CSR file already generated on your server or system
-
OV pre‑validation completed by the Sectigo Validation team
Procedure
For Organization Validation (OV) and Extended Validation (EV) SSL certificates, the Certificate Signing Request (CSR) can only be submitted after the required organization validation has been completed for the account.
If the Organization Validation (OV) or Extended Validation (EV) process has not yet been finalized, you may not be able to proceed with CSR submission.
Scenario 1: OV/EV Validation Not Yet Completed
If the Organization Validation (OV) or Extended Validation (EV) process has not been finalized, you will not be able to proceed with CSR submission.
What to Do If CSR Submission Is Blocked
If you are unable to submit the CSR, please follow the steps below:
Step 1: Retrieve the Pre-Validation Number
-
Log in to your account.
-
Click “Set Up” next to the relevant order number.
-
Select “Check Status.”
-
Note the displayed OV/EV pre-validation number.
Step 2: Contact Validation Support
Contact Sectigo Validation Support directly at:
+1 (888) 266-6361
Provide the OV/EV pre-validation number to the validation team. They will review the status and advise you on any outstanding requirements needed to complete the validation process.
Once the organization's validation is successfully completed, you will be able to proceed with CSR submission.
Scenario 2: OV/EV Validation Already Completed
If the Organization Validation (OV) or Extended Validation (EV) process has already been completed for your account, you may proceed directly with CSR submission and Domain Control Validation (DCV).

Understanding Domain Control Validation (DCV)
What is DCV?
Domain Control Validation (DCV) is a mandatory verification process performed by the Certificate Authority (e.g., Sectigo) before issuing any SSL certificate, whether it is:
-
Domain Validation (DV)
-
Organization Validation (OV)
-
Extended Validation (EV)
Why is DCV Required?
DCV ensures that the person requesting the certificate is authorized to use the domain listed in the certificate request.
Available DCV Methods
Sectigo provides the following DCV options:
-
Email-Based Validation
A validation email is sent to a predefined domain contact address.

-
DNS CNAME-Based Validation
A specific CNAME record must be created in the domain’s DNS zone.

-
HTTP/HTTPS File-Based Validation (Hash Method)
A validation file must be uploaded to a specific directory on the web server.

-
DNS TXT Record Validation
A TXT record containing a validation hash must be added to the domain’s DNS configuration.

Step 5: Review and Submit
On the Summary Page, carefully review all submitted information.
Once confirmed, submit the certificate request.
Final Step: Complete Domain Validation
After submission, domain ownership must be successfully verified through the selected DCV method before the certificate can be issued.
Once DCV is completed and approved, the SSL certificate will be issued.
