Pre-requisites:
When you purchased your VMC, you submitted a SVG file and received back a PEM file. Both files, retaining their original names, need to be placed on a publicly accessible server, and accessible via https (note: http will cause a failure).
Note: The SVG that is hosted and referenced in your BIMI record, must be a complete match, the SVG file that was validated and is referenced in your PEM file. If there is a mismatch, the BIMI functionality will be inhibited.
Updating Your BIMI Record:
Once your files are publicly available, the URLs for those files are entered into your BIMI record. The BIMI record is a TXT DNS entry to be added to your domain DNS. Once your files are publicly available, the URLs for those files are entered into your BIMI record. The URL will need to be widely accessible and static.
Steps to Set Up a BIMI Record:
1. Prepare Your Logo.
Format: SVG Tiny 1.2
Must be square and visually represent your brand.
Host it on a publicly accessible HTTPS URL by yourself or by your certificate provider (Sectigo).
2. Create the BIMI DNS TXT Record.
Add a TXT record to your domain’s DNS with the following format:
Record Type: DNS TXT
Name: default._bimi.yourdomain.com.
Value: ""v=BIMI1; l=https://yourdomain.com/path/to/logo.svg; a=https://yourdomain.com/path/to/vmc.pem""
v=BIMI1: Version of BIMI.
l=: URL to your SVG logo.
a=: URL to your VMC file.
3. Publish the Record
Use your DNS provider’s dashboard to add the TXT record under the subdomain: default._bimi.yourdomain.com
