How to revoke the certificate on SCM Pro
Overview
By following this article, you will be able to submit a certificate revocation request in the Sectigo Certificate Manager (SCM) Pro portal and understand what happens to the request after you submit it. The article covers what certificate revocation means, the access and permissions you need before you begin, the seven steps of the revocation request, how to verify that the request was submitted, and the most common problems authors encounter. Two terms are used throughout: revocation reason, the pre-defined category you select to explain why the certificate is being withdrawn, and message/comment, the free-text note you add to support that reason.
What Is Certificate Revocation?
Certificate revocation is the process of permanently withdrawing a certificate from active use before its scheduled expiry date. Revoke a certificate when it is no longer needed, when it has been replaced by a new certificate, or when another approved reason applies. Revocation is not reversible, so confirm that you have identified the correct certificate before you submit the request.
Prerequisites
Confirm all of the following before you start a revocation request in the Sectigo Certificate Manager (SCM) Pro portal.
- Access to the SCM Pro portal with valid sign-in credentials.
- Permission to manage or revoke certificates for the relevant organization.
- The identity of the specific certificate to be revoked, including its organization or account scope.
- The revocation reason your organization requires for this certificate.

How to Verify the Request Was Submitted
After you submit the request, return to the Certificates list in the Sectigo Certificate Manager (SCM) Pro portal and locate the certificate. The certificate status reflects the revocation request once the portal has recorded it. If your organization requires approval or additional validation before the revocation takes effect, the status changes only after that workflow completes.
What Happens Next
After submission, the revocation request is processed according to your organization's certificate management workflow. If approval or additional validation is required, follow the instructions provided by your certificate administrator or support team. Processing times vary depending on the approval workflow and validation requirements your organization has configured.
Troubleshooting
Each entry below pairs a symptom you may see in the Sectigo Certificate Manager (SCM) Pro portal with its likely cause and the action to take.
| Issue | Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| The certificate does not appear in the list | You are viewing a different certificate profile, organization, or account scope | Switch to the correct profile, organization, or account scope. If the certificate is still not listed, contact your certificate administrator. |
| The Revoke Certificate option is unavailable | Your account lacks revocation permission, or the certificate is already revoked, expired, or in a state that does not allow revocation | Confirm your permissions with your certificate administrator and check the current certificate status. |
| The request cannot be submitted | One or more required fields are incomplete | Complete all required fields, including Revocation Reason and Message/Comment, then submit again. |
| You are unsure which revocation reason to select | The correct reason depends on your organization's certificate management policy | Review your organization's certificate management policy, or contact your certificate administrator before submitting. |
| The revocation status is not updated immediately | The request is waiting on your organization's approval or validation workflow | Allow the workflow to complete. Processing times vary by organization. |
