Will CodeGuard work with my website or blog platform?
Overview
By the end of this article you will be able to tell whether CodeGuard can back up your website, whatever platform it is built on.
CodeGuard does not depend on the platform itself. It works with WordPress, Joomla, Drupal, Magento, custom-built sites, and static sites alike because what matters is the type of access your hosting gives you rather than the software your site runs.
The article sets out the access requirements for backing up files and for backing up databases, names the platform types that cannot be backed up and why, and explains what to do if you are unsure.
Platforms CodeGuard cannot back up
CodeGuard cannot back up websites built on hosted site builder platforms that give you no file-level access. Examples include:
- Squarespace
- Wix
- Shopify
- Weebly
- Similar hosted website builder services
These platforms keep your site inside their own system and provide no FTP or SFTP route to the underlying files, so there is nothing for CodeGuard to connect to.
This limitation comes from the platform, not from CodeGuard, and cannot be worked around by changing plans or settings.
Most of these platforms provide their own built-in backup or version history. Check their documentation for details.
Platforms CodeGuard works with
CodeGuard is used successfully with all common content management systems, including:
- WordPress
- Joomla
- Drupal
- Magento
- Custom-built websites
- Static websites
The list is not meaningful on its own, though. Two WordPress sites on different hosts may have different outcomes depending on the access each host provides.
Apply the access requirements rather than looking for your platform by name.
Platform requirements
If the platform you use meets the following criteria, CodeGuard can be used for your website and database backup needs:
- You must have access to your website's FTP or SFTP credentials in order to connect to CodeGuard.
- Your site must use MySQL databases.
- You must be able to whitelist the following CodeGuard IP addresses so that CodeGuard can remotely connect to your database:
- 54.236.233.46
- 54.236.233.28
- 54.174.91.34
- 54.174.153.212
- 54.174.115.171
If you are unsure
Check your hosting control panel or your provider's welcome email for FTP, SFTP, or SSH credentials.
If you cannot find them, ask your hosting provider directly whether your plan includes file access and remote database access.
If you are still unsure, contact Sectigo Support with your platform and hosting provider for guidance.
