What if I don't have my FTP account information?

Overview

By the end of this article you will know where to find your File Transfer Protocol (FTP) account information so you can connect your website to CodeGuard for backups. It links to common hosting providers' instructions, explains the directory access your FTP user needs, and tells you who to contact if you are still stuck. If your host uses SSH File Transfer Protocol (SFTP) instead, the same provider pages cover SFTP credentials.

Where to find your FTP account information

Most hosting providers include instructions for managing FTP users in their support centers. The links below open each provider's FTP instructions:

Required access for your FTP user

The FTP user you create must have access to the directory you want to back up. Without access to that directory, CodeGuard cannot read or store your files.

For a worked example of locating your SFTP or FTP information, see the How To Add A Website video tutorial, which walks through finding these details on your host.

If you still can't find your FTP details

If you aren't sure how to locate your SFTP or FTP information, contact your hosting provider, and they can supply or reset your credentials.
