Troubleshooting SSL Validation Issues: HTTP DCV Common Issues

Summary

When submitting a certificate request and completing Domain Control Validation (DCV) via the HTTP method, you may encounter challenges due to the following common issues:

  • Incorrect hash values or file names

  • File placed in an incorrect directory

  • Access restrictions preventing the file from being reached

Troubleshooting Steps

1. Confirm File Location

Ensure that the validation file is placed in the correct directory and is publicly accessible over the internet.

2. Verify File Name and Hash Values

If the file is accessible, confirm that the filename and hash values exactly match the details provided by Sectigo.

3. Disable Redirects Temporarily

Avoid redirecting HTTP traffic during the validation process.

4. Check Access

Test the URL in a browser.

5. Firewall and Security Settings

Ensure Sectigo’s validation servers can access the file globally. Remove any restrictions that block external access.

Additional Tips

If the HTTP method fails, consider using Email-based DCV as an alternative.
