How do I restore my unassigned databases?

Overview

By the end of this article, you will have started a restore, or downloaded a zip copy, of an unassigned database backup in CodeGuard. The article first explains what an unassigned database is and why it must be restored separately from the website it belongs to, then covers the prerequisites you need and the five steps through the Other Databases list, the Databases page, the View All button, the Restore Options button, and the choice between Request Zip and Restore. It closes with how to verify the restore and common troubleshooting situations.

What is an unassigned database?

An unassigned database is a database that CodeGuard backs up but that is not linked to any website on your account. Most databases backed up by CodeGuard are assigned to a website already on the account. Some accounts also hold databases that a hosting provider added directly, and those databases have no website associated with them.

Because an unassigned database is not linked to a website, it is not included when that website is restored. You must restore the database separately, using the steps in this article.

Prerequisites

CodeGuard account access with permission to restore backups
At least one database listed under Other Databases in your CodeGuard account
The date or version of the database backup you want to restore

Steps to restore an unassigned database

Step 1 — Open a database from the Other Databases list

In your CodeGuard account, find the Other Databases list and select one of the databases shown there. Selecting a database from this list opens the Databases page for that database.

Step 2 — Find the backup you want to restore

On the Databases page, review the backups listed for the database and identify the backup you want to restore. Backups are listed so you can choose the point in time you want to return to.

Step 3 — Select View All below the database name

Select the View All button shown below the name of the database you want to restore. This displays the full list of stored versions for that database.

Step 4 — Open Restore Options for the version you want

Select the Restore Options button next to the version you want to restore to. Choosing the version here determines the exact point in time the database will be returned to.

Step 5 — Choose Request Zip or Restore

Select Request Zip to download a copy of the database backup as a zip file, or select Restore to start an automated restore of the database. Use Request Zip when you want to keep or import the data yourself, and Restore when you want CodeGuard to write the backup back to the database directly.

How to verify the restore was completed successfully

After selecting Restore, return to the Databases page for the database and confirm that the restore is listed as complete. If you selected Request Zip instead, confirm that the zip file has been prepared and downloaded, and that it contains the database content you expected.

Troubleshooting

Issue: The database you want to restore is not shown in the Other Databases list.
Cause: The database has not been added to the CodeGuard account, or it is assigned to a website rather than unassigned.
Solution: Check the website entries in your account for the database. If it is not present in either place, contact your hosting provider to confirm the database has been added to CodeGuard.

Issue: Restoring a website did not restore its database.
Cause: The database is unassigned, so it is not included in the website restore.
Solution: Restore the database separately using the steps in this article.
