How do I back up a Liquid Web Cloud Sites database?

Overview

By the end of this article, you will have your Liquid Web Cloud Sites database backed up by activating it in CodeGuard. To do this, you will gather four pieces of information from the Liquid Web Cloud Sites control panel — your MySQL database name, MySQL username, MySQL password, and Database Management IP address — and then use them to add the database in CodeGuard. Because you will collect the Database Management IP address yourself, you do not need to whitelist CodeGuard's IP addresses with your Cloud Site.

Before you begin

Gather the following four items from the Liquid Web Cloud Sites control panel. In the screenshots, each item is marked with a matching number (1 to 4):

MySQL database name

MySQL username

MySQL password

Database Management IP address

Step 1 — Log in to the Liquid Web Cloud Sites control panel

Go to manage.liquidweb.com and log in with your Liquid Web Cloud Sites credentials.

Step 2 — Open your database in Cloud Sites

Click the web address of the website that the database belongs to. Click the Databases dropdown, then select the database you want to back up. Copy down the database name, then click the database to open it.

Step 3 — Copy the Database Management IP address

CodeGuard connects to your database remotely, so copy down the Database Management IP address shown for the database. This is the address CodeGuard uses to connect to your Cloud Site.

Step 4 — Create a MySQL username and password

Create a new MySQL user for the database. Click Create User, enter a username and password, and save the user. Keep a note of the username and password, because you will enter them in CodeGuard.

Step 5 — Add the database in CodeGuard

Add the database in CodeGuard using the information you gathered:

Click the Add Database link at the bottom of the screen.

Enter the Database Management IP address, then click Test Connection. CodeGuard tests the connection from two of its most common IP addresses. When the test succeeds, click Next Step.

CodeGuard shows the IP addresses it connects from. As a Liquid Web customer, these addresses are already whitelisted for you, so you can skip this verification step. Click Next Step.
