How do I activate, upgrade, or downgrade my CodeGuard plan through WHMCS?

Overview

By the end of this article, you will have submitted a CodeGuard plan change through your hosting provider's billing interface and know how to manage backups once the change is processed. The article states the prerequisites — your hosting provider must offer CodeGuard through the cPanel plugin and use Web Host Manager Complete Solution (WHMCS) for billing — then covers the steps to reach the upgrade and downgrade page, select a plan, confirm the billing terms, and manage backups from the CodeGuard plugin. It closes with how to verify the change and troubleshooting for a plan change that does not go through.

Prerequisites

  • Your hosting provider offers automated website backups through the CodeGuard cPanel plugin.
  • Your hosting provider uses Web Host Manager Complete Solution (WHMCS) as its billing system. If it uses a different billing system, contact your hosting provider for instructions — the steps below will not match their interface.
  • You have sign-in credentials for your hosting provider's billing interface.

Steps to change your CodeGuard plan

Step 1 — Sign in to your hosting provider's billing interface

Sign in to the billing interface your hosting provider gave you when your account was set up. The screens described below are from a standard Web Host Manager Complete Solution (WHMCS) interface; your provider may have customized the appearance.

Step 2 — Open the upgrade and downgrade page

From the Services menu, select My Services. On the My Products & Services page, find your hosting package and select View Details. From the Management Actions menu, select Upgrade/Downgrade Options.

Step 3 — Select the CodeGuard plan you want

On the Upgrade/Downgrade page, find the CodeGuard Website Backups section and select the plan you want to activate, upgrade to, or downgrade to. The plans your hosting provider offers may differ from those shown in the example screenshot, because each provider sets its own range. Select Continue once you have made your choice.

Note that a plan change can fail if your existing CodeGuard account exceeds the new plan's quota limits. This most often affects downgrades, where the websites or storage already in use are larger than the smaller plan allows.

Step 4 — Accept the billing terms and submit the order

Review the updated billing terms shown for the new plan and accept them. Your order is then submitted to your hosting provider for processing.

Step 5 — Manage backups from the CodeGuard plugin

Processing time varies by hosting provider. When the order is complete, you receive an email confirmation. From that point, you can manage your CodeGuard backups by selecting the CodeGuard icon in your hosting provider's cPanel interface.

How to verify the plan change was completed

Watch for the email confirmation from your hosting provider, then open the CodeGuard icon in cPanel and check that the plan shown matches the one you selected. If the new plan is displayed, the change has been applied.

Troubleshooting

Issue: The plan change fails after you submit the order.
Cause: Your existing CodeGuard account exceeds the quota limits of the plan you selected — for example, more websites or more storage than the new plan allows.
Solution: Reduce your usage to fit within the new plan's limits, or select a plan with a quota that covers your current usage, then submit the order again.

Issue: The Upgrade/Downgrade Options entry does not appear under Management Actions.
Cause: Your hosting provider does not use Web Host Manager Complete Solution (WHMCS), or has not enabled plan changes through the billing interface.
Solution: Contact your hosting provider and ask them to make the plan change for you.

Issue: The order was confirmed but backups cannot be managed in cPanel.
Cause: The hosting provider has not finished processing the order.
Solution: Wait for the email confirmation, then check the CodeGuard icon in cPanel again. If the confirmation has arrived and the plugin still does not reflect the new plan, contact your hosting provider.
